There is a palpable feeling of excitement as we near the opening day of the 3rd ADC. Hundreds of monks, nuns, workers and volunteers are working hard at Naropa Photang to make final preparations. Whether they are putting together the sound system, building the dais from which His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa and many Drukpa Lineage masters will teach or preparing food to keep others strong and healthy, everyone is clearly happy to be assisting putting on this grand event of the Drukpa lineage. As Kyabje Khamtrul Rinpoche Jigme Pema Nyinjadh, the chairperson of the last two ADCs, has observed: everyone is working with joy because their motivations are good.
Because of these good motivations, many wonderful changes are happening fast here in Shey. Monks, nuns and volunteers are placing colorful banners with auspicious sayings every few feet on the road to Naropa Photang. At the request of His Holiness, Sonam Angdus has overseen the construction of a café, which was built in the matter of a few weeks, to provide coffee, tea and other refreshments to the tens of thousands expected to attend. The name of the café - "Rancho's Café" - brings back great memories of Aamir Khan, Live To Love Global Ambassador, and the "3 Idiots" crew members who were at the school.
Both Kyabje Drukpa Choegon Rinpoche Tenzin Chokyi Gyatso, the 3rd ADC Chairperson and Kyabje Khamtrul Rinpoche are overseeing the event and ensuring that everyone is working with one heart. Kyabje Thuksey Rinpoche has been leading 80 monks and a few Bhutanese volunteers on a pilgrimage in Himachal Pradesh, visiting the Drukpa monasteries and their eminent abbots and communities. Kyabje Thuksey Rinpoche in the past ten days visited Kyabje Drukpa Choegon Rinpoche Chokyi Sengye's Dechen Choekhor Ling Monastery in Kullu, Kyabje Khamtrul Rinpoche Shedrub Nyima's Khampagar Monastery in Tashi Jong, Kyabje Dzigar Choktrul Rinpoche's Dzigar Monastic Institute in Tso Pema, Kyabje Dorzong Rinpoche's Jangchub Jong Monastery and Kyabje Sey Rinpoche's monastery in Manali; his return to Ladakh was delayed till today by an unexpected heavy snowfall in Lahaul.
